Nittaku Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange – High-Quality Pimples-In Table Tennis Rubber
Nittaku Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange is a high-quality pimples-in table tennis rubber developed by the Japanese manufacturer Nittaku. It combines the legendary DHS Hurricane 3 topsheet with a modern Japanese sponge. Made in China with a sponge produced in Japan, this rubber is ITTF and JTTA approved and features an exceptionally tacky surface that delivers high spin (15/20) and speed (14.75/20). Utilizing Nittaku’s ACTIVE CHARGE (AC) technology, Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange addresses the shortcomings of traditional Chinese rubbers, offering increased power and elasticity—especially when playing from mid to long distance. This rubber is ideal for aggressive attackers who seek spin, power, and the control of Japanese quality, ensuring consistent performance. It’s perfect for players emphasizing topspin attacks, powerful shots, and technical play at or near the table.

Main Features:
• Rubber Type: Pimples-in
• Speed: 14.75/20
• Spin: 15/20
• Sponge Hardness: 45° (hard, close to 50° on the ESN scale)
• Sponge Thickness: 2.0 mm, MAX
• Colors: Red, Black
• Country of Origin: China (sponge made in Japan)
• Approvals: ITTF and JTTA approved
• Weight: ~48 g (uncut, 180x170 mm), ~35 g (cut, 157x150 mm)
• Technologies: ACTIVE CHARGE system, highly tacky DHS Hurricane 3 topsheet, Japanese sponge

Nittaku Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange features a modern construction that merges the spin potential of a Chinese topsheet with the elasticity of a Japanese sponge, ensuring an excellent balance of speed, spin, and power:

Sponge (45°): The hard sponge (45° on Nittaku’s scale, close to 50° ESN) is made in Japan with a fine-pored structure that provides a strong “catapult effect” and excellent ball rebound. Compared to traditional Chinese rubbers like DHS Hurricane 3 (40–42°), the Japanese sponge is more elastic and faster, enhancing stroke power—especially from mid or long distance. Compared to Tenergy 05 (36°), Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange's sponge is harder, offering more power but less forgiveness, demanding proper technique and strength.

Topsheet: The highly tacky DHS Hurricane 3 topsheet is legendary for its ability to generate strong spin (15/20), particularly in topspin shots and serves. Its sticky nature allows the ball to “dwell” longer on the rubber, ensuring high spin and precision in spin shots. ACTIVE CHARGE technology increases the topsheet’s elasticity, providing more speed (14.75/20) and power than traditional DHS Hurricane 3. Compared to Nittaku Magic Carbon (spin 9.25/20), Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange is significantly tackier but more sensitive to incoming spin, requiring accurate technique.

ACTIVE CHARGE Technology: Nittaku’s ACTIVE CHARGE system enhances the elasticity of the sponge and topsheet, delivering additional speed and spin without external boosters. This technology ensures a “sharp” impact feel, allowing the player to precisely regulate stroke power and spin—especially in topspins, flat hits, and counterattacks. Compared to Moristo 44, Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange offers a livelier feel and more power.

Weight: Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange is a medium-weight rubber (~35 g cut), heavier than Moristo SP (~31 g) but lighter than Tenergy 05 (~37 g). This weight makes it suitable for pairing with a variety of blades but works best with lighter or medium-weight blades to maintain racket balance.

The rubber is available in two thicknesses: 2.0 mm for balanced play and MAX for aggressive offensive shots, especially topspin and flat hits. Colors—red and black—meet ITTF standards. Nittaku recommends water-based glues, such as Nittaku Fine Zip, for mounting the rubber.

Technical Ratings and Playing Characteristics:

Speed (14.75/20):
Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange is a very fast rubber suitable for powerful topspin attacks, flat hits, and third-ball attacks. Compared to Moristo 44 (15/20), its speed is slightly lower but close to Nittaku Jewel Large (14.5/20). The Japanese sponge adds extra thrust from distance, giving it an advantage over traditional Chinese rubbers like DHS Hurricane 3. The rubber has a strong catapult effect but requires proper technique to prevent shots from overshooting.

Spin (15/20):
Thanks to the extremely tacky DHS Hurricane 3 topsheet and ACTIVE CHARGE technology, the rubber generates exceptional spin, especially in topspins, serves, and banana flicks. Compared to Moristo DF (11/20) or Magic Carbon (9.25/20), Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange delivers much higher spin, close to Tenergy 05 (61/100). The rubber is sensitive to incoming spin, requiring precise technique for blocks, but is highly effective in spin shots.

Control:
The hard sponge (45°) and tacky topsheet provide good control for skilled players, though it is less forgiving than Moristo DF or Magic Carbon due to its hardness and spin sensitivity. Compared to Tenergy 05, Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange offers less forgiveness, making it more suited for advanced players with solid technique.

Trajectory:
Arc-shaped, high trajectory on topspin shots—ideal for offensive and spin-based techniques. Blocking produces a flatter trajectory, suitable for stable blocks at the table. Compared to short pips rubbers, Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange delivers a more curved arc, ideal for close-to-the-table or mid-distance play.

Game Aspects:

Drives (Driving):
Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange excels in topspin drives (9.5/10), especially forehand strokes, producing powerful shots with strong spin. It’s ideal for third-ball attacks and counterattacks from distance due to the sponge's elasticity.

Blocking:
Blocking against topspin is stable but requires technique (8.8/10) due to the rubber’s sensitivity to incoming spin. It allows for precise passive and active blocks—especially on the forehand—but may be challenging on the backhand for beginners.

Pushing:
Long pushes (9.3/10) are very grippy, generating strong backspin that challenges the opponent’s return. Short pushes (9.0/10) are accurate and effective for short play at the table.

Flicks:
Banana flicks (9.4/10) are highly effective, particularly when looping against backspin, thanks to the tacky topsheet and good speed.

Serving and Receiving:
Serves (9.5/10) are highly spinny, especially backspin and sidespin, generating strong rotation. Passive receive (8.7/10) requires technique due to sensitivity to incoming spin, but active receives—such as flicks—are very effective.

Blade Compatibility:
Nittaku Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange pairs well with a variety of blades, especially those emphasizing speed and thrust:

Nittaku Violin: Balances speed and feel, suitable for technical strokes.
Butterfly Timo Boll ALC: Maximizes speed and power, ideal for aggressive attackers.
Butterfly Viscaria: Offers stability, good for counterattacks.
Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Offensive: Provides extra speed, suitable for powerful strokes.
Butterfly Innerforce Layer ZLC: Offers excellent touch, ideal for all-round attackers.

Due to its weight (~35 g cut), Hurricane Pro 3 Turbo Orange pairs best with lighter blades such as Nittaku Acoustic to maintain racket balance.
